Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat is an engineer, technocrat and public servant who has played a significant role in Lagos State's public administration and infrastructure development.
Born on 19 September 1964 in Lagos, Dr. Hamzat studied Agricultural Engineering at the University of Ibadan before earning a master's degree and later a PhD in Systems Process Engineering from Cranfield University in England.
His professional career spans both the private and public sectors. Before his return to public service, he held technology and management positions in organisations including Merrill Lynch, Morgan Stanley and Oando Plc, where he served in senior technology roles.
In Lagos State government, he first served as Commissioner for Science and Technology from 2005 to 2011. He subsequently became Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, where his portfolio included major infrastructure programmes during a period of rapid development across the state.
His public-sector career has also included work on roads and infrastructure assets as Special Adviser Technical to Babatunde Fashola, before he became Deputy Governor of Lagos State in 2019. He was re-elected to the position in 2023 alongside Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
Today, his public profile combines engineering, technology, infrastructure and governance — areas that have remained central to his career across both government and the private sector.
